When the person responsible for asbestos changes

People move on. When the person who looks after asbestos in a building changes, the knowledge they carried can go with them. HSE lists a change of the staff responsible as one of the times to review and update your asbestos management plan.

What to hand over

  • The current asbestos register, including dates of the original and last inspection.
  • The asbestos management plan and who is responsible for each part of it.
  • The original survey and any refurbishment and demolition surveys.
  • Records of removal or repair work, with paperwork from the contractors.
  • The date the next re-inspection is due.

Check the register is current

HSE says the register “must always contain current information”. If the last inspection is more than a year old, a re-inspection gives the new person a clean, dated starting point.
